MEHMET AKİF ERSOY - ŞARK (THE EAST)

” diyorlar. Gördüğüm yer yer

Annoying, does not let us do anything else, bloody nightmare about the West
Since centuries, the brain and the strength of Muslim World is unemployed
"What did you see, you have been in the East a lot?", they say. What i saw were;

Harap iller, serilmiş hânümanlar, başsız ümmetler,
Yıkılmış köprüler, çökmüş kanallar, yolcusuz yollar,
Bükülmüş beller, incelmiş boyunlar, kaynamaz kanlar,
Düşünmez başlar, aldırmaz yürekler, paslı vicdanlar;
Tegallüpler, esaretler, tahakkümler, mezelletler;
Riyâlar, türlü iğrenç iptilâlar, türlü illetler;
Örümcek bağlamış, tütmez ocaklar; yanmış ormanlar;
Ekinsiz tarlalar, ot basmış evler, küflü harmanlar;
Cemaatsiz imamlar, kirli yüzler, secdesiz başlar;
“Gazâ” nâmiyle dindaş öldüren biçare dindaşlar;
Ipıssız âşiyanlar; kimsesiz köyler; çökük damlar;
Emek mahrumu günler; fikr-i ferdâ bilmez akşamlar! ...

Ruined cities, felled houses, communities without leaders
Collapsed bridges, collapsed channels, roads without passengers
People with bended waists, thin necks, and full of death
Heads without thoughts, hearts without passion, corroded consciences
Bullies, slaves, tyrannies, abominations
Hypocrisy, several kinds of mania, a range of diseases
Covered with cobwebs; fireplaces without fire, forests that are burned down,
Fields without corns, homes occupied by weeds, harvests in mold
Imams without crowd, dirty faces, heads without prostrate (secde)
Helpless brothers that murder co-religionist with the idea of "Gaza" (holy war)
Deserted bird nests, deserted villages, collapsed roofs
Days without struggle, nights without ideas of future!....

Geçerken, ağladım geçtim; dururken ağladım durdum;
Duyan yok, ses veren yok, bin perişan yurda başvurdum.
Mezarlar, âhiretler, yükselen karşımda dûradûr;
Derinlerden gelir feryadı yüz binlerce âlâmin;
Ufuklar bir kızıl çember, bükük boynunda islâm’ın!
Göğüsler hırlayıp durmakta, zincirler daralmakta;
Haremler, beyt-i Makdisler bu topraktan mı yoğruldu?

Really, I cried as I passed, I stopped by and cried;
Nobody hears, nobody answers back, I applied to one thousand miserable country
Raising in front of me were graves, and afterlives
Not a smile from the soil, not a smiling divine light from the skies
Groans come from the deeps because of hundred thousands of pain
Horizons are red circles on the neck of Islam
Chests are growling, chains are shrinking
Three hundred and fifty million are staying suffocated, all about to die
Dear God! Are these people I see the craddle of humanity?
Did the civilization of history raise from these deserts?
Were these districts without guests the country of "vahdaniyyet - uniqueness of God"?
Were they these sands, which prophets welled out from?
Before even a lighting of faith was not flashing in the skies of World
Were they these skies, God, which your religion rained from
Are these coasts Serendib (Ceylon), are these mountains Mount Cudi
Were the stars which showed İbrahim his way from this climate?
Were Harems (Beyt-ül Haram - Kaaba) and Beyt-i Makdis (Al Aqsa-s) kneaded from these soil?
Were they these valleys, which made DAVUD ..... ????
Are Mountains Hira and Tur-u Sina the screams of these horizons?
Did the secrets of Ruh-ullah (Jesus) poured out from these rocks?

Cihanın garb’ı vahşet-zâr iken, Şark’ında karnak’lar,
Haremler, Sedd-i Çinler, Tak-ı Kisrâlar, Havernaklar,
İrem’ler, Sûr-u Bâbil’ler semâ-peymâ değil miydi?
O maziler, İlâhi, bir yıkık rüyâ mıdır şimdi?
Ne yapsın, nâ-ümid olsun mu Şark’ın intibahından?
Perişan rûhumuz, hâip, dönerken Bâr-gahından?

While the West of World is the garden of atrocity, the East is Karnaks
Harems (Beyt-ül Haram - Kaaba) , Chinese Walls, Palaces of Kisra (Persian King), Havernaks (a palace in Iraq)
Were not Irems (Nation that made of tall people, mentioned in Quran) , Walls of Babylons reaching to skies?
Are these memories, Dear God, ruined dreams now?
What should be done? Should the East be hopeless for its renaissance?
While our miserable soul, returns from your presence, hopeless?

“HAYAT ELBETTE HAKKIMDIR! ” desin, dünya “DEĞİL! ” derken-

We are tired of this deprivation, may this disappointment come to an end!
Dear God, is not there a puff, so frozen emotions may shiver
So that felled hearts can shake the nightmare off from themselves
Then they may say, "OF COURCE I HAVE THE RIGHT OF LIVING", while the World says, "NO" -
